Mama Pizza sits right on the sand on the west coast of Gili Air, the side of the island that faces the sunset over Bali's Mount Agung. It is one of the most reviewed restaurants on the island, with close to 5,000 Google reviews and a rating around 4.7 and is one of the busiest dinner spots on the island.
Pizzas come out of a wood-fired oven on a sourdough base that is left to prove for 48 hours, and the menu also covers handmade pasta, burrata, carpaccio, calzone and tiramisu. There is a reasonably priced wine list and a choice of mocktails. Tables are spread under the trees and along the beach, so you can eat with your feet in the sand.
It opens from midday to 22:30. Sunset is the busiest time and a wait for a table is common, so arrive before 17:30 or come for a late dinner. From the harbour it is about a 15-minute walk or a short cidomo (horse cart) or bike ride along the coastal path.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
