Surf

Lombok has some of the most varied surf in Indonesia, and much of it is within half an hour of Kuta. Selong Belanak's soft sand-bottom waves are ideal for first lessons. Gerupuk Bay has a set of breaks reached by boat that cater to beginners, improvers and advanced surfers. Mawi, Ekas and Desert Point are serious waves for experienced surfers.

Most schools include transport, boards and rash vests, and many run packages that combine lessons with accommodation and video coaching. The dry season from May to October brings offshore winds on the south coast; the wet season can still produce good days at different breaks.
