Mowies has been on Gili Air's west beach since 2014 and is one of the island's best-known places to watch the sun go down behind Bali's Mount Agung, with beanbags and low tables set out on the sand. Get there early in high season to claim a spot.
The open-air kitchen runs all day, serving fresh fish, wood-fired pizza and handmade sambal, along with salads and cocktails. Gluten-free options have historically been marked on the menu. There is also a saltwater lagoon pool, and turtles are often seen just off the beach when you snorkel.
Mowies is also a small family-run hotel with eleven rooms across six bungalow styles, all a few steps from the sand. Starlink Wi-Fi makes it workable for remote workers, and breakfast is included when you book direct. Book rooms online or contact the team on WhatsApp. Service can be slow on busy sunset evenings, so order drinks as soon as you sit down.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
