Sabai Sabai is a Thai restaurant on Jl. Mojo in the south of Gili Air, a short walk from the harbour. It is a welcome change if you have been eating nasi goreng for a week, and has a rating of around 4.7 from more than 500 Google reviews.
The dishes that come up most in reviews are the pad thai, pad see ew, chilli and garlic prawns, massaman curry and Thai soups, with sticky rice and a coconut cooler to finish. Diners are often given complimentary vegetable fritters while they wait. There are vegetarian versions of most curries and noodle dishes, and the kitchen will adjust the heat on request.
The interior is calm and tidy, with a breezy upstairs seating area that is the nicest place to sit. Sabai Sabai opens from 11:00 to 22:00, Wednesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan around that. It is an easy walk from most guesthouses in the south of the island.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
