Kayu Cafe is one of Gili Trawangan's longest-established daytime cafés, on the main beach road a short walk south of the harbour. It is built around breakfast and lunch: avocado toast with tofu scramble, rice bowls, paninis, falafel burgers, jackfruit wraps, tacos and smoothie bowls, plus fresh juices and good coffee. A separate vegan menu and clear labelling make it an easy choice for vegetarians and anyone with dietary needs.
The cake counter is a big part of the draw, with cheesecakes such as caramel and ginger or chocolate regularly singled out by visitors. Portions are generous and prices are fair for the island. You can sit out front facing the beach or retreat to the air-conditioned room inside when the midday heat builds.
It opens daily from 07:00 to 19:00, so think breakfast, lunch or an afternoon coffee and cake rather than dinner. Mornings are busiest; arrive before 09:00 if you want a table without waiting. Contact details and menus are linked from the café's Linktree.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
