Tiki Grove is tucked away on Kelapa Road in the island's quieter interior, a few minutes' walk from the northern end of the main strip. It describes itself as Indonesia's first tiki bar, and the décor and drinks lean into the theme: Mai Tais, rum punches and other tiki cocktails served in carved mugs, alongside a short menu of tacos and Mexican-style plates designed for sharing.
The pulled chicken and Mexican chicken tacos come with a choice of house hot sauces, and portions are fair for the price. Staff are frequently praised for small touches such as bringing fans and bug spray to the table. Themed nights and drinks promotions run regularly, and it gets livelier after dark without turning into a club.
Tiki Grove opens from 15:00 to 22:30, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays. It is a good choice for an early-evening drink after sunset or a relaxed dinner away from the beachfront crowds. Bring mosquito repellent anyway, as it is in a leafy garden setting.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
