Warung Dewi is a traditional family-run warung tucked behind the market area just inland from the main strip. It is one of the best places on Gili Trawangan to eat simple, home-cooked Indonesian food at local prices, and it has been a favourite with budget travellers and island residents for years.
Food is served from a counter of dishes made that day, so you point and choose. Expect vegetable curries such as pumpkin and jackfruit, stews, bean salads, sambal and the warung's crisp fried tempe, which many visitors call the best on the island. There are meat dishes too, including soto and ayam taliwang, but vegetarians are particularly well catered for.
It opens daily from 08:00 to 21:00. Lunchtime is the busiest period and there can be a short queue, but turnover is fast. Seating is basic and the setting is unglamorous; takeaway is available if you would rather eat on the beach. Bring cash in small notes.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
