This rustic evening warung on Jl. Raya Kuta announces itself with a fish display and a smoking charcoal grill at the front. Inside it is simple bamboo tables under a roof, with an easy, local atmosphere.
There are two reasons to come. The first is grilled fish: you choose a whole fish from the ice, it is weighed, marinated and grilled over coals, then served with rice, vegetables and sambal or a garlic dipping sauce. The second is ayam gepuk, crisp fried chicken smashed with chilli sambal, at around 25,000 rupiah, with good tempeh and tofu on the side. Mie goreng, nasi goreng and fresh juices fill out a short menu.
It opens from 3pm to 11pm. Fish is priced by weight, so agree the size and price before it goes on the grill, and allow 20–30 minutes for it to cook. You pay at the counter when you finish. Cash is easiest.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
