Gerupuk Café FIN is a laid-back surfers' café in Gerupuk, the fishing village about 15 minutes east of Kuta that serves as the jumping-off point for boat trips to Gerupuk's surf breaks. The interior is full of character, with old surfboards, a striking mural, driftwood and mosaic tables.
The menu mixes Indonesian staples such as mie goreng with healthy café food: smoothie bowls, the Falafelicious bowl, the 'my best friend' pesto sandwich, toasties with fries, fresh juices, smoothies and coffee. There are several vegan options, though anyone with allergies should double-check orders, as reviewers report occasional mix-ups.
It opens very early (06:30) and stays open until 23:00, so it works as a pre-surf breakfast stop or a post-session lunch while you watch surf competitions on the television. Prices are lower than in Kuta town. It is on the village road close to where the surf boats leave; most people come by scooter.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
