La Cuna – The Mexican in Town

La Cuna, better known locally as The Mexican in Town, is an intimate dinner-only restaurant just off the beach road in central Kuta. It was set up by a Mexican owner and combines Meso-American recipes with organic, local ingredients, served in a warm, candlelit room with music in the background.

Signature dishes include baja fish tacos, a tuna tostada, mahi-mahi ceviche, cochinita pibil, burritos, nachos and fresh guacamole, with good plant-based options such as jackfruit tacos and quesadillas. The bar is a big part of the appeal: margaritas, a spicy Bintang michelada and other tequila and mezcal cocktails, with a happy-hour deal early in the evening.

It opens daily from 17:00 with last orders at 21:45. Tables fill up quickly in peak season, so reserve through the website or WhatsApp, especially at weekends. Takeaway and delivery are also available. Note that this is a different restaurant from Cantina Mexicana, also in Kuta.
