Milky Wave sits on the hillside along Jl. Mawun, a few minutes west of Kuta town, in a dramatic bamboo structure that blends Japanese and Indonesian architecture. From the dining room there are views over green hills down to the ocean, which makes it a popular choice for a special evening out.

The kitchen serves Japanese fusion cooking built on local produce, including fresh-caught tuna: sushi rolls, sashimi, miso soup, wagyu steak with chimichurri and dishes such as passion-fruit ceviche, alongside a cocktail list and a selection of Japanese whiskies. There are themed evenings such as sushi nights, and the restaurant also caters for group dining and events.

It is open daily from noon to 22:30. Arrive before dark if you want to see the view, and reserve through the website for dinner, especially at weekends. You will need a scooter or taxi to get there, as the road out of town is unlit. Prices are at the top end for Kuta.

Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
