Warung Makan Inaq Kari is a no-frills family warung in the middle of Kuta, run by a warm local woman (inaq means mother in Sasak). It looks like countless other roadside warungs, with a glass cabinet of ready dishes at the front and plastic chairs inside, but it has a loyal following among surfers and budget travellers.
The dish to order is the chicken curry, a coconut-based broth with local spices that many visitors rate among the best things they ate on Lombok, at around 25,000 rupiah. Sate ayam, nasi goreng and nasi campur from the cabinet are the other staples. Portions are generous and the food is cooked with care, even if the setting is basic.
It is open from morning until late at night every day. The nasi campur is priced by what you choose, so confirm the price when ordering if you take extra meat. Bring cash; it is a good stop for a cheap, filling meal after a surf.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
