Warung Ombak sits on Jl. Raya Kuta in the Merendeng area, a few minutes north of the main strip, in a breezy open-sided building with wooden tables under a thatched roof. It is a favourite with longer-stay visitors who eat there repeatedly, and the extra couple of minutes on the scooter keeps it calmer than the warungs in the centre.
The menu is built around Indonesian comfort food: nasi goreng served with chicken sate in peanut sauce, mie goreng, gado-gado, ayam goreng and grilled chicken with sambal, plus a short list of burgers and chips for anyone who wants a break from rice. A full dinner with a drink comes to around the price of a coffee back home.
It opens from late morning into the evening, which makes it a good post-surf lunch stop. Service is friendly and quick by warung standards. The menu and updates are posted on its Instagram account, and the team can be reached by phone or WhatsApp.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
