Warung Maldini is a quiet, plant-filled warung on the main Senggigi road that punches well above its price. The menu is mostly Indonesian and Lombok home cooking, and the kitchen takes care over even the simple dishes: fried tofu and tempeh, gado-gado and water spinach are all done well.
Highlights mentioned again and again by diners include ikan woku, a Manado-style fish cooked with lemongrass, chilli and herbs; ayam rica-rica; a light but fragrant yellow chicken curry; and rendang with rice. Several curries can be made with tofu instead of meat, which helps vegetarians. Fresh fruit juices are blended thick, almost like smoothies, and the iced lemon tea is properly tart.
The setting is relaxed and shaded, with a small open-fronted dining room and garden seating. It is open from breakfast to late evening Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays. Prices are modest, making it a good everyday option for those staying in central Senggigi or Mangsit.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
