Warung Singgah is a simple roadside stall on the Senggigi coast road, run by two sisters-in-law who make everything to order. The speciality is gado-gado: blanched vegetables, potato, sticky rice cake and egg under a peanut sauce ground fresh on a stone mortar while you watch. They are happy to show visitors how it is done.
The other house dish is plecing kangkung, Lombok's signature water spinach with a fiery tomato and chilli sambal. There is also mie goreng and fried rice topped with runny-yolk fried eggs, plus fresh juices. Many dishes can be made vegan, and the owners are used to adjusting spice levels for visitors. Reviewers who have travelled widely in Indonesia frequently call it the best gado-gado of their trip.
Seating is a few benches under a tin roof by the roadside, so this is a lunch stop rather than an evening outing. It opens 09:00 to 17:00 daily, prices are very low and payment is in cash. It sits just south of central Senggigi near Batu Bolong, an easy scooter stop on the way to or from Mataram.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
