Tip of the Tongue is a small, family-run warung in the centre of Gili Meno, on the inland path between the east coast and the lake. It has a 4.8 Google rating from more than 500 reviews, which makes it one of the best-rated places to eat on the island.
The kitchen focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, much of it organic. Dishes include grilled mackerel and other fresh fish with sambal, mie goreng topped with an omelette, nasi goreng, yellow curry and fruit plates, with a chocolate brownie for pudding. Vegetarian versions are easy to arrange. Service is warm, and the family also offers simple rooms, laundry and help with snorkelling trips.
It opens early, from 06:30 until 22:00, which suits anyone catching a morning boat or heading out to snorkel before the wind picks up. Prices are local, and it is a pleasant walk or bike ride from either coast.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
