Sate rembiga is a Lombok speciality named after the Rembiga neighbourhood of Mataram, and Ibu Sinnaseh's canteen on Jl. Dr. Wahidin is where most people go to try it. Thin pieces of beef are marinated in a mix of chilli, palm sugar and spices, then grilled over charcoal until caramelised, giving a sweet, smoky and spicy result quite different from peanut-sauce satay elsewhere in Indonesia.

The canteen is counter-service and unpretentious, with a menu that also covers soups such as bebalung (beef rib soup), rice plates, otak-otak and plecing kangkung. It is very popular, with more than 6,300 Google reviews and a 4.6 rating on both Google and Tripadvisor, and many visitors buy extra skewers to take away.

It is open daily from 09:00 to 22:00 and sits close to the old Selaparang airport area, about 15 minutes from Senggigi. Go at lunchtime for the freshest grilling, and order the lontong or rice to soak up the marinade.

Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
