Lombok Go Where

Sekotong

Sekotong is the long south-western peninsula of Lombok, and offshore lies a scatter of small islands often called the "secret Gilis": Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, Gili Kedis, Gili Asahan and Gili Gede among them. They are a world away from Gili Trawangan, with a handful of resorts, few visitors and coral reefs that are often in better condition.

Snorkelling is the main event. Day trips by local boat hop between islands, with stops for reef snorkelling, a lunch of grilled fish and time on almost empty beaches. Several dive operators work the area, and the island resorts make a good base for a few lazy days.

Getting there takes planning. The road from Lembar harbour is slow, and many visitors arrive by boat from Bali or on resort transfers. Facilities are limited, so bring cash. Sekotong also links up with Bangko-Bangko (Desert Point), a famous but fickle surf break for experts.
