Papi Resto is a small family warung right on the beach on Gili Gede, the largest of the southern 'secret' Gilis off Sekotong. Tables sit on the sand under trees, looking out over the calm channel with fishing boats moored offshore. It is run by Putri and her husband Emon, and it scores 4.9 from more than 160 Google reviews.
Putri buys produce at the market each day, and the fish is fresh: reviewers recommend the prawn curry, fish curry, grilled trevally and red snapper, along with local fruit juices such as dragon fruit and pineapple. Prices are well below what the island's resorts charge. Emon is a boat driver and guide, and his full-day snorkelling trips to Gili Nanggu and other nearby islands are a highlight for many visitors.
It is open daily from 09:00 to 22:00. Ask in the morning what fish is available. Bring cash, as there are no ATMs on Gili Gede.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
