Aqia Surf

Aqia Surf is a locally run surf school on the sand at Selong Belanak, run by Ono and Ning with a team of English- and Indonesian-speaking instructors. Selong Belanak's long, sandy bay has gentle, consistent waves, which makes it one of the best places on Lombok to learn, and Aqia offers daily lessons for beginners to intermediates, including children.

All equipment is included with lessons, and boards can also be hired on their own, from softboards and funboards to performance shortboards, starting at IDR 50,000 an hour. The team can organise custom trips along the south coast for surfing, snorkelling or fishing. After your session, the school's own beachfront restaurant serves local food and drinks facing the bay.

With a 5.0 rating from more than 950 Google reviews, it is one of the most reviewed schools on the beach; guests often mention fair prices and that the owner is not pushy. The school is open daily from 07:00 to 19:00. Book by WhatsApp and pay on arrival, as there is no online payment. Selong Belanak is about 30 minutes from both the airport and Kuta.
