Tetebatu Food House is a small family restaurant on Jalan Pariwisata in the centre of Tetebatu, the village of rice terraces and forest on Rinjani's southern slopes. The owner, Ros, and her family cook everything to order, and the restaurant doubles as a cooking school where you can learn a few Sasak dishes and eat the results.

The menu is classic Indonesian home cooking: chicken satay, jackfruit curry, urap-urap (vegetables with spiced coconut), fried tempeh, nasi goreng and gado-gado, plus fresh fruit juices. Reviewers describe the food as fresh, carefully prepared and good value, and some guests are given small complimentary appetisers or fruit. Staff speak good English and are happy to explain dishes.

It is open daily from 08:00 to 22:30, so it works for breakfast before a rice-field walk as well as dinner. Ask in advance if you want to join a cooking class. Pay in cash. Local guides often bring their groups here for lunch after a morning walk.

Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
