The Alam is a family-run set of traditional-style wooden bungalows in Orong Gerisak, Tetebatu, looking across rice terraces towards Mount Rinjani. It describes itself as eco-friendly accommodation, and the bungalows have balconies, mosquito nets, quilts for cool nights and, unusually for the village, hot water.
The on-site restaurant is popular with non-guests too, with an extensive menu of Lombok specialities served in a garden setting. The family runs cooking classes and works with a local guide, Udin, whose walks through the rice fields and monkey forest, and scooter trips to the area's waterfalls and weaving villages, are highly rated. Airport pick-ups, scooter rental and transport can be arranged. Light sleepers should note that calls to prayer from nearby mosques carry across the valley.
Budget and larger bungalows are available. Book through the website or by WhatsApp; Tetebatu is about 35 km from Lombok International Airport. Evenings are cool at this altitude, so pack a light jumper.
Message ahead in peak season: July, August and the Christmas holidays fill up fast.
